Been busy this weekend working on a new version of "The Love That She Makes" for the Roses For Sharon remix-remaster-reissue. It's a thick, noisy, and soupy song and I'm trying to find the right balance. I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but I've had to re-make, from scratch, two songs from Roses: "The Love That She Makes" and "Butterflies" because my masters to the originals were lost to a defective hard drive. Such is the drawback to digital recording. I've read that Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot can't be remixed because original multitrack files have been lost. That didn't happen with tape, for the most part. That said, I love recording in a computer Digital Audio Workstation. It gives me so many more options and possibilities than my old 8-track cassette Porta-Studio and limited selection of outboard gear (compressors, reverbs, etc.). Roses For Sharon shouldn't be too far off (March?). We'll keep you posted.

Check out our FreeSongs page. We've done up "picture sleeves" for each of the songs and they match their parent album cover themes. If these songs were issued as 45's or CD Singles, these would be the picture sleeves. You can also see them all together on our Photos page.

We're going to retire our "Pick a David Bowie album" survey. These surveys don't get a lot of attention, but we're going to keep them going. Diamond Dogs, Station to Station, Low, and "Heroes" each got a vote apiece, with the other albums listed getting no votes. Again, it was a bit of a low turnout. This time around we're going to ask something much more universal: What's your favorite season of the year? Please put in your vote!

Here's some musical folks who are celebrating another year of living on the planet:

  • Sunday, January 27: Margo Timmons and Mike Patton
  • Monday, January 28: Sara McLachlan and Robert Wyatt
  • Tuesday, January 29: Tommy Erdelyi
  • Wednesday, January 30: Marty Balin, Trevor Dunn, and Phil Collins
  • Thursday, January 31: Phil Manzanera, John Lydon, and Philip Glass
  • Friday, February 1: Exene Cervenka, Don Everly, Del McCoury, and Mike Campbell
  • Saturday, February 2: Graham Nash

Happy Birthday to all!
